Compensation Notice (TFP): Runway 817 is currently a volunteer, TFP runway event for models as we work towards paid modeling engagement. No wage or stipend is promised for fittings or the show date. Our published roadmap targets paid model fees by Show #6 as sponsorship and ticket revenues grow.

PRESS RELEASE

11/6/2025 - Payment, TFP, and Our Commitment to Fair Treatment

We’ve seen a claim that Runway 817 “exploits models” by not paying them. That is not accurate. Our current shows are run as TFP (Time-For-Portfolio) opportunities. This is clearly disclosed on our application and confirmation materials, and models volunteer their time with that understanding.

What “TFP” means here
  • No wage is promised or expected for the show date or fittings.
  • Models receive professional runway photos/video for their portfolios when available or released.
  • Participation is fully voluntary. Declining or withdrawing has no consequence and no future penalty.

How we care for our models today

  • Backstage hospitality (meals, snacks, water) and a respectful, professional environment.
  • Clear call times, breaks where feasible, and a safety-first backstage policy.
  • Timely communication, on-site support, and coordination with designers and stylists.

Our roadmap to paying models

Our goal is to pay models by our 6th show as our sponsorships, ticketing, and production revenue grow. We’ve published this goal because we believe in moving the local industry forward.

  1. Shows 1–2: TFP, hospitality provided, standardized care and conduct policy.
  2. Shows 3–4: Introduce travel/parking stipends where budget allows; expand photo/video delivery.
  3. Show 5: Targeted sponsor underwriting for model fees; set minimum per-model stipend if feasible.
  4. Show 6: Implement paid model fees backed by sponsor + ticket revenue.

DFW Fashion Council: raising the bar together

We are working to form the DFW Fashion Council to align producers, designers, agencies, and community partners on fair standards in our region—covering safety, scheduling, image rights clarity, and a pathway to paid rates. Our aim is collaboration, not competition.

Fashion with a purpose

We actively support mission-driven causes (including Beat Kids Cancer and Save the Kids) because we believe creative work should lift our community, too.

Bottom line: Volunteering for a clearly disclosed TFP runway show is not exploitation. We respect our models, invest in their experience, and are building the financial base to start paying model fees by Show #6.
